Ateneo de Davao University Emerges Victorious In PwC Philippines' 8th M&A Challenge

In a thrilling display of exceptional problem-solving ability, business acumen, and presentation skills, Team Magis & Amazing from Ateneo de Davao University clinched the top spot at PwC Philippines' 8th M&A (Mergers & Acquisitions) Challenge.

The competition, held on January 19, 2024, at PwC Philippines' Makati office, featured 99 teams from universities across the country.

Chloe Gempesaw, a standout member of Team Magis & Amazing, received accolades as the competition's best presenter.

The team's victory underscored their prowess in navigating a hypothetical deal transaction, focusing on incorporating sustainable development and sustainability initiatives into client businesses.

Securing second place was Team Blue Chips from Ateneo de Manila University, while Team The Patriots from De La Salle University-Dasmariñas claimed the third spot. Other notable finalists included Team EcoCaroli Holdings (University of San Carlos), Team Phoenix (Southern Luzon State University), and Team Kairos (Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology).

The distinguished panel of judges, featuring industry leaders and experts from PwC Philippines, included Chairman and Senior Partner Rick Danao, Chairman Emeritus and ESG Leader Alexander Cabrera, and others.

Their involvement underscored the significance of the M&A Challenge as a platform for nurturing the next generation of corporate finance advisors.

The M&A Challenge, initiated in 2016, has become the country's pioneer M&A-focused business case competition for university students in the Philippines. This year's challenge centered on addressing real-world business challenges related to sustainable development, reflecting the shifting business models across industries.

The M&A Challenge not only provides students with an opportunity to sharpen their skills but also allows them to collaborate and learn from their peers nationwide, contributing to their growth as future business leaders.
