The US government was miffed by the hacking of its envoys and other officials by other nations that used Predator, Pegasus, and other spyware developed by the Israeli company NSO.
The US monitors all calls reaching its territory and has the capacity to disrupt the communications of countries like Iran, China, and Russia.
A ban against NSO in the US market forced the company to close shop and reinvent itself after Washington also barred a US company, Harris, from taking over the Israeli commercial espionage enterprise.
The ban leaves the US government and its intelligence community a monopoly on hacking, along with the four other members of Five Eyes, a group of countries aligned with the US.
