Thousands of climate and bicycle activists across Germany demonstrated against the construction of new highways on Saturday, June 5, 2021, Deutsche Presse-Agentur (dpa) reported.

In Berlin, hundreds took part in the nationwide day of action. About 60 to 80 people stormed a highway construction site early Saturday, and later, about 200 people gathered at another site there.

In the western city of Dortmund, at least 1,000 activists took part in a bicycle demonstration along multi-lane federal highways, said the police. In Kassel, about 100 people rode part of the highway between two exits for about 15 minutes, according to the police.

Lower Saxony and Bremen, as well as the state border between Brandenburg and Saxony-Anhalt, also saw hundreds of protesters.
