Blue Origin is facing months of delays after a rocket explosion damaged its launch pad, according to company and industry sources, disrupting schedules for Amazon satellite launches and strengthening SpaceX’s dominance in the commercial space sector, Reuters reported.

The incident occurred during a test fire of engines for the New Glenn rocket ahead of an upcoming launch attempt.

The setback comes at a critical time for Jeff Bezos’ space company, which is competing with SpaceX in heavy-lift launch services and satellite internet infrastructure.

A booster involved in testing was reportedly destroyed in the explosion, and the launch pad sustained severe damage. Industry sources said repairs could take six months or longer, potentially delaying NASA-related lunar mission support and commercial launches.

Analysts noted that while setbacks are not unusual in spaceflight development, the incident could temporarily widen SpaceX’s lead in the sector.
