Boeing Dumps Bid For Safety Exemption For 737 MAX 7

Writer: By The Financial DistrictBy The Financial District

Boeing has confirmed its decision to withdraw a request made to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) seeking an exemption from a safety standard for its 737 MAX 7 aircraft, awaiting certification.

The news came following opposition from Senator Tammy Duckworth, chair of an aviation subcommittee, who raised concerns about the safety implications of the exemption.

The exemption Boeing sought involved an anti-ice system that could overheat, potentially causing engine nacelles to break apart and endangering passengers. Boeing stated that instead of pursuing the exemption, it would incorporate an engineering solution during the certification process to address the safety issue.
