There was a bomb scare on Thursday, June 24, 2021, in German Chancellor Angela Merkel's constituency office in the northern city of Stralsund, according to the police, Deutsche Presse-Agentur (dpa) reported.

A man attached a suspicious package to the letterbox of the building, located in the city center, in the afternoon, the police said. The fire brigade's specialist ammunition and hazardous materials teams were called as it was unclear whether the package was dangerous or not.
The area was cordoned off and nearby residents evacuated as a precautionary measure. Police then gave the all-clear as the package didn't contain any dangerous substance. Witnesses provided a detailed description of a man, 43, who was alleged to have attached the package. His motives were initially unclear.
Investigations were ongoing into another letter containing white powder, according to the mass-circulation Bild newspaper. The criminal investigation department has taken over the case.
