Japanese department stores and other retailers have continued selling World Exposition in Osaka merchandise as demand remains strong even after the six-month event ended, Kyodo News reported.

Kintetsu Department Store Co.’s main outlet in Osaka has kept its official expo shop open beyond the planned closure on Oct. 13 — the event’s final day — and has added items previously sold only at the expo venue. The company even plans to launch new products.
“The excitement of the expo will remain for some time,” said Kintetsu Department Store President Takahiro Kajima at an Oct. 10 press conference, expressing his intention to continue promoting the festival after achieving its sales target in August.
Another major retailer, Daimaru Matsuzakaya Department Stores Co., has doubled its floor space for expo-related goods since November.
Meanwhile, West Japan Railway Co. will continue operating its official expo stores at key transport hubs — Osaka and Shin-Osaka stations — while MaruzenJunkudo Bookstores Co. has opened a special section for expo merchandise at a store in the city.
