Cal Ripken Jr., Grant Hill Part Of Group Buying Baltimore Orioles

Former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and former Baltimore Mayor Kurt Schmoke are also part of the investor group, as reported by Noah Trister for the Associated Press (AP).


The acquisition group is led by Baltimore native David Rubenstein, co-founder of the Carlyle Group.

Additional investors were disclosed in a news release on Wednesday announcing the agreement between Rubenstein and the Angelos family, who have owned the team for the past three decades.


Ripken expressed his excitement about being part of the Orioles organization again, emphasizing the team's significance in his life since childhood.

The Angelos family is selling a controlling stake in the team to Rubenstein for $1.725 billion.
