Europe’s second-largest carmaker, Stellantis, and Chinese EV battery giant CATL have started construction on a €4.1 billion battery factory in northeastern Spain that is expected to create 4,000 jobs, Doloresz Katanich reported for Euronews.

China’s CATL and Stellantis held a groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday for their joint venture to build a major lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery plant in the Aragon region.
The deal, first announced last year, marks one of the largest Chinese industrial investments in Spain.
Executives from the joint venture said recently the project is expected to create 4,000 jobs. This follows criticism after media reports suggested up to 2,000 Chinese workers may be involved in the construction, potentially replacing local employees.
Andy Wu, CEO of the joint venture, declined to confirm these figures, saying the final numbers have not yet been decided as the company is still selecting a subcontractor, the Associated Press (AP) also reported.
