The carrier has been "strictly" implementing a "one hand-carry baggage" since 2018.

"The fee is part of the strict implementation (of the airline's policy). It is really to streamline operations and make customer experience more seamless," Michelle Lim of CEB Corporate Communications told the Philippine News Agency.

Extra carry-on baggage will be charged PHP1000 per person for domestic flights. The hand-carry bag must also not exceed 7 kilograms.

Lim said that CEB currently operates to/from eight international destinations. However, charging fees for the extra carry-on baggage on international flights will follow "in the coming months".

In an advisory posted on its Facebook page, CEB said equipment for medical needs and for infants are exempted from the fee.
