China has slammed a Canadian evolutionary biologist for saying that based on the data culled from Wuhan and the blood samples collected from patients, there is strong evidence pointing to the Wuhan market as the source of the COVID-19 virus.

Michael Worobey, head of ecology and evolutionary biology at the University of Arizona, relied on a close analysis of cases flagged by hospitals and reported in medical journals, alongside media reports, to argue that early links to the market were not just the result of a reporting bias.
Instead, they showed most early symptomatic cases from December 2019 were linked to the Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market in Wuhan, according to his article published in the journal Science, Holly Chik reported for the South China Morning Post (SCMP).
Worobey said patient zero was a seafood vendor and the early patients were specifically connected to a section of the market selling raccoon dogs.
In retort, Liang Wannian, the head of a government health panel, told Linda Lew of SCMP on Dec. 11, 2021, that the Canadian’s suggestions do not stand up to scrutiny.
Liang said it was unscientific to conclude that some early cases of people living close to the market was proof that it was the origin of the community transmission. “We think that Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market may not be the origin of COVID-19. This is a result … fully recognized by the WHO expert team after analyzing the epidemiological records of patients.”
