Two luxury Hermès Birkin handbags confiscated from jailed Vietnamese businesswoman Truong My Lan sold for more than $535,000 at a government auction, Angus Thompson reported for BBC News.

The bags found buyers within 30 minutes of bidding, with one white Birkin selling for about $440,144 and the other fetching nearly $94,858.
Truong My Lan is serving a life sentence after being convicted in connection with a major banking fraud case involving Saigon Commercial Bank. Authorities ordered her to repay approximately $27 billion in reparations.
She was initially sentenced to death in April 2024 after prosecutors alleged she controlled the bank through shell companies and orchestrated loans amounting to roughly $44 billion.
Her sentence was reportedly commuted to life imprisonment following changes to Vietnamese law.
