BP has removed its chairman over what it described as serious concerns related to governance standards, oversight, and conduct, Michelle Chapman reported for The Associated Press (AP).

The departure was abrupt, coming months after Albert Manifold assumed the role. BP’s board said it was “surprised and disappointed” by governance and conduct issues it deemed unacceptable and appointed Ian Tyler as interim chair effective immediately.
The company said the search for a permanent replacement is underway.
BP, headquartered in London, is one of the world’s largest oil and gas companies, operating in about 60 countries.
The leadership change adds to ongoing scrutiny of corporate governance at major energy firms amid industry transition pressures.
