U.S. Officials Contradict Trump's Claim of Imminent Iran Talks

Despite President Donald Trump's repeated assertions that negotiations with Iran were set to begin on Monday, U.S. officials told CBS News that no new or formal negotiations were planned, Frank Andrews reported.

Trump called Iran's leadership "unbelievably duplicitous" after Tehran said it had no plans to hold direct talks with Washington, contradicting his claim that negotiations would begin Monday.
On Sunday, Trump said a "deal is imminent, having to do with the Strait of Hormuz and also, ultimately, the denuclearization of Iran."
U.S. officials, however, said there were no new negotiations scheduled.
An official added that "Iran's only negotiations are with Oman," noting that the two countries have held "constructive discussions" over the past week regarding a temporary shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz.
