CROATIA BUYS 12 FRENCH RAFALE FIGHTER JETS

EU and NATO member Croatia has decided to buy 12 used fighter jets of the French type Rafale F3R, Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic said on Friday on his government's website.

Plenkovic gave the purchase price for 10 fighter jets of the single-seat variant and two of the two-seat variant as 999 million euros ($1.2 billion).

"The French offer proved to be the best, because Croatia is getting the best- valued and best-equipped aircraft for the lowest price," he added.

Croatia's air force currently only has MiG-21 aircraft, which were produced during the Soviet era, Deutsche Presse-Agentur (dpa) reported.
