Delta Air Lines and Boeing recently announced that the U.S. carrier will upgrade its single-aisle fleet to the highly efficient 737 MAX to satisfy demand and its long-term sustainability goals.

Delta confirmed an order for 100 737-10 jets at the Farnborough International Airshow, picking the largest member of the 737 MAX family, with an option for 30 more planes.

Delta CEO Ed Bastian remarked, "The Boeing 737-10 will be an important addition to Delta's fleet as we shape a more sustainable future for air travel, with an elevated customer experience, improved fuel efficiency and best-in-class performance."

By decreasing fuel use and emissions by 20-30% compared to the airplanes it replaces, the 737-10 will provide Delta Air Lines with the best per-seat economics of any single-aisle Boeing model.

The jet has a maximum range of 3,300 nautical miles, can carry up to 230 passengers, and is capable of flying on 99 percent of all single-aisle routes throughout the world.

The president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, Stan Deal, was pleased to hear that Delta Air Lines would be replacing its aging single-aisle fleet with the 737 MAX, emphasizing that "the 737-10 will provide Delta Air Lines with the best economics to carry more passengers across its short and medium-haul routes."

In addition to the fleet expansion announced, Delta Air Lines has contracted with Boeing Global Services to completely redesign the interiors of its 29 Next Generation 737-900ERs. This will help get the planes' interiors updated in time for Delta Air Lines' 2025 summer season.
