According to Tokyo-based Ryukakusan Co., since China's "zero-COVID" policy was eased in December 2022, the products have been in hot demand at stores in Japan. At this point, there is no indication when the situation will be resolved.
The company stated, "We deeply apologize to our customers and business partners for any inconvenience this has caused."
A Ryukakusan spokesperson explained, "The shortage is unthinkable in terms of domestic demand. Pharmaceutical items such as 'Ryukakusan' are effective for coughing and sore throats, but throat drops are considered as food products."
