DITO Telecommunity, the newest mobile network operator (MNO), has boosted market competition by enhancing the country's internet speed, according to a report by the global monitoring service Ookla.

The Philippines is no longer a duopoly, according to Ookla's most recent analysis, which demonstrates that DITO has already eroded the dominance of its primary competitors.
In conjunction with regulatory changes, DITO's existence prompted major telco providers to invest in their network infrastructure, boosting 4G and 5G connectivity for millions of Filipino consumers.
Prior to the commercial debut of the third telecom player, the Philippines' 4G median download speeds in the first quarter of 2021 were just 11.15 Megabits per second (Mbps).
The statistic increased to 15.53 Mbps in the first three months of 2022, about a year after DITO's operations began. Ookla also reported that DITO, despite being a new entrant, had the highest 4G availability from January to March, rating 91.2%.
In response to the Ookla report, DITO Chief Administrative Officer Atty. Adel Tamano attributed the group's strong performance to its aggressive investments in network rollout, led by our Chief Technology Officer Retired Major General Rodrigo Santiago, as well as our partnership with the regulators and the local government.
"This is just the beginning. With our commitment to delivering quality telco services nationwide, Filipino consumers can expect more from DITO as we remain committed to continue our investment in network upgrades and expansion," Tamano stated.
For 2022, the DITO has budgeted 50 billion to reach more Filipinos and to make its products commercially available in more than 840 locations around the country.
"We are confident that DITO can go head-to-head with the other two major players as penetrating more areas means we capture more share in the market. In the process, Filipino consumers will benefit from this increased competition, with companies racing to provide the best connectivity and the best value for services," said Tamano.
Just last month, DITO surpassed 9 million subscribers and is well-positioned to reach 12 million by year's end. Currently, it is present in over 600 cities and municipalities.
