DOJ Sues Apple For Illegally Monopolizing Smartphone Market

The Justice Department has filed an antitrust lawsuit against Apple, alleging that the tech giant has unlawfully monopolized the smartphone market, stifling competition and innovation, as reported by Michael Liedtke, Lindsey Whitehurst, Mike Balsamo, and Frank Bajak for the Associated Press (AP).

Apple has refuted the DOJ's allegations, asserting that the lawsuit is "wrong on the facts and the law" and vowed to vigorously defend against it.

The lawsuit, lodged in federal court in New Jersey, accuses Apple of wielding monopoly power in the smartphone industry and employing its control over the iPhone to engage in illegal conduct.

Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco asserted that Apple has constrained consumers to the iPhone while excluding competitors from the market, hindering industry progress.
