EASTWEST BANK CONFIRMS BANK MANAGER MISSING

EastWest Bank has disclosed to the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) that one of its branch managers is missing but maintained that it cannot disclose the amount of money involved due to “confidentiality” issues.

In a letter sent to both PSE and SEC officials, the bank said that it is already in touch with two bank depositors reported earlier to have been defrauded of their bank deposits and that an investigation is ongoing.

“We have been in touch with the two affected depositors and they have been informed that an internal investigation is ongoing,” EastWest finance officer Vincent A. Villanueva said, adding that the bank is ready to “promptly return any missing deposits once the amount is established. “

According to a DZRH report last Monday, January 11, a businessman supposedly lost as much as P270 million with ACT-CIS Representative Niña Taduran joining in that the said businessman, who was not identified, found out that he incrementally lost money in November 2020.

"Nakakapagtaka na meron naman tayong anti-money laundering law…. 'Di ba dapat 'pag mga P5-million withdrawals na, magtataka ka, medyo red flag na sa kanila. Bakit ito nakalusot?" Taduran asked.

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas has also begun its investigation into the case of the missing deposits .
