Through their Sitio Electrification Program (SEP), in collaboration with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Carmen and the Department of Energy - Region XI, Davao Light successfully electrified over sixty households in four sitios, creating a transformative impact on the residents.
Jerry Nalupa, representing the LGU of Carmen, expressed sincere gratitude, recognizing the essential role electricity plays in driving progress.
Nalupa stated, "We thank Davao Light and the Department of Energy because there won't be much progress in Carmen without electricity. Every business, whether industrial or small, and each home needs electricity."
Prior to this electrification effort, students in the area faced significant challenges in accessing resources for their assignments.
Benedicto Nalzaro, Head of Barangay Peace and Order, highlighted the difficulties students encountered, having to travel to libraries or internet shops in other parts of the municipality. Nalzaro added, "Now, they can use their cellphones and connect to the internet at home."
The positive impact of this project extends beyond education.
The Department of Energy reports that approximately 1.1 million households in the country still lacked electricity by the end of 2021. However, initiatives like the SEP undertaken by Davao Light aim to contribute to the National Electrification Administration's target of achieving full electrification by 2028.
Since 2018, Davao Light has remained dedicated to energizing sitios and illuminating communities previously in darkness.
Additionally, the company has conducted public safety campaigns to raise awareness about electrical safety and conservation tips, ensuring responsible and cautious use of electricity to prevent fire incidents.
The SEP has brought electricity to previously underserved sections of Barangay Magsaysay, including Puroks 4A, 4B, and 4B - Area 2. Davao Light, together with its dedicated partners, continues its commitment to empowering the communities it serves through electrification projects like the SEP.
Engr. Jerome Ryan Deleonio, Head of the Distribution Services Department of Davao Light, expressed appreciation for the LGU of Carmen's support, which played a crucial role in expediting the Sitio Electrification Project.
Deleonio remarked, "Thanks to the support of the LGU of Carmen, we were able to fast-track the Sitio Electrification Project to three months. That's how fast electrification is now."
The electrification of Barangay Magsaysay serves as an inspiring example of how collaboration, dedication, and the power of electricity can bring about positive change in the lives of individuals and entire communities.
Through their continued efforts, Davao Light and its partners are illuminating the path toward a brighter and more connected future for the people of Davao del Norte.
