Elon Musk Proposes Peer Review System for Advanced AI Models

Elon Musk has proposed that leading artificial intelligence companies regularly review one another's most advanced AI models before deployment to improve safety and reduce potential risks, Namrata Sen reported for Benzinga.

In an interview with The Economist, published on Friday but recorded before OpenAI disclosed concerns about autonomous AI behavior, Musk suggested that major AI developers hold regular meetings to discuss safety and security issues.

"The most immediate thing that we could do is to have the leading AI companies ... have some sort of call once every few weeks and just discuss any safety and security issues," Musk said.

He argued that competing AI companies should identify and communicate serious risks associated with their models, with governments intervening only if companies fail to address major safety concerns.

The Tesla and SpaceX CEO acknowledged that artificial intelligence and robotics present significant risks but said he believes the technologies are ultimately capable of creating "incredible abundance for all."

Musk also said AI development is advancing so rapidly that it would be impossible to stop its progress, even if he wanted to.
