Elon Musk's platform X has faced criticism for its advertising practices, particularly in relation to the placement of advertisements alongside content from an openly racist and white supremacist outlet, VDARE.

A review by Reliable Sources found that advertisements from major companies and organizations appeared on VDARE's verified profile account on X.
The companies and organizations mentioned in the report include Amazon, Samsung, the Denver Broncos, Cox Communications, STARZ, The Wall Street Journal, The Michael J. Fox Foundation, the University of Missouri, New York Waterway, Axios, Puck, Ad Age, Morning Brew, and the Asian Development Bank.
The concern raised is twofold. First, it's problematic that X allows a publication like VDARE to operate a verified account on the platform, potentially giving it access to monetization and boosting its visibility to users.
Second, the platform's apparent willingness to monetize hate speech by pairing advertisements with racist content raises ethical and brand safety concerns.
It's worth noting that Facebook and YouTube have banned VDARE from their platforms.
The NFL also expressed concern about its ads appearing alongside racist material on X accounts, including VDARE's, following a report from Media Matters.
In summary, X has faced criticism for its advertising practices and the placement of ads alongside racist content, which raises questions about its commitment to brand safety and ethical considerations.
