EU, SoKor Ship Generators To Ukraine

The European Union (EU) will give Ukraine 200 transformers and 40 heavy generators to support its energy sector.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen made the announcement in a call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Kyiv Independent reported.

South Korea has also promised to provide high-voltage generators for Ukraine. “We greatly appreciate the support South Korea has already provided and is planning to provide,” said First Deputy Chairman of the Ukrainian parliament Oleksandr Korniienko.

Finland is sending energy equipment to Ukraine, Finland’s Economy Minister Mika Lintila told the Finnish broadcaster Yle news, and the first batch may arrive next week.

After Russia’s Nov. 23 mass missile strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, Lintila talked with Finnish energy companies to coordinate efforts to assist Ukrainians and several have responded positively.

Norway is sending Ukraine 55,000 units of winter clothing, an M109 self-propelled howitzer, and spare parts for military equipment repairs, the country's government announced on Nov. 25.

The donation comes as NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on Nov. 25 that “NATO will continue to stand with Ukraine for as long as it takes.”

He added: “Most wars end with negotiations. But what happens at the negotiating table depends on what happens on the battlefield. Therefore, the best way to increase the chances for a peaceful solution is to support Ukraine.”
