Ogarev's body was discovered in his home in Gorki-2's affluent neighborhood, although the cause of death has yet to be confirmed. There was no evidence that Ogarev died violently.
"According to preliminary data, the man’s death is not of a criminal nature," Olga Vradiy, a senior assistant to the head of the Moscow region's investigation office, said. "However, the exact cause of death will be determined by examination." A pre-trial inquiry has been initiated.
In 1999-2000, Alexei Ogarev led Rosvooruzhenie. He was also Russia's permanent representative to the OSCE, deputy head of the presidential administration, and security council deputy secretary. At one point, Ogarev studied alongside Alexei Dyachenko, the in-law of Russia's first president, Boris Yeltsin.
A series of suspicious high-profile deaths involving Russian high-ranking politicians and businesses have been reported since the outbreak of Russia's full-scale war with Ukraine.
