The Australian branch of controversial Indian mining giant, Adani has said it will rebrand as Bravus, which it says is "the Latin word for brave," but language experts disagree, Deutsche Presse-Agentur (dpa) reported.

"It's not so much bravery but a militant boldness," Christopher Bishop from the Australian National University’s center of classical studies told dpa on Friday. It is more accurately translated to mean "crooked, evil or malicious," or even "assassin" or "mercenary," Bishop said.
Bishop said he has "no idea" how Adani could have made the error, saying it sounds more like a "Monty Python" Latin, referring to the British comedy troupe. The rebrand to Bravus Mining & Resources marks the company's 10-year anniversary of operations in Australia.
The company has been fiercely targeted by environmentalists and activists over its plans to build one of the world's largest coal mines in central Queensland. The government gave Adani final environmental approval for the Carmichael mine in June 2019, nine years after the project was proposed.
