The suspect is now in custody, Jonathan Swan, Alex Binder, and Maggie Haberman reported for The New York Times.

Trump was reported safe after the shooting incident at his golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Sunday.

The FBI said it was investigating “what appears to be an attempted assassination” of former President Donald J. Trump after Secret Service agents fired on an armed individual at the golf club.

This event occurred just over two months after Trump was wounded during a previous assassination attempt.

According to law enforcement officials, Trump was on the course, several hundred yards away, when Secret Service personnel spotted a suspect concealed in the bushes and opened fire.

The suspect fled the scene in a vehicle and was later apprehended during a traffic stop.

A rifle with a scope was recovered from the bushes, along with a camera and two backpacks.

It was not immediately clear whether the suspect had fired any shots, according to the Secret Service. A U.S. law enforcement official identified the suspect as Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, of Hawaii.
