Ford Motor Co. CEO Jim Farley warned that a shortage of skilled blue-collar workers could significantly affect household costs, according to Robyn Tellefsen reporting for Moneywise.

Speaking on his DRIVE podcast, Farley said industries are struggling to find enough electricians, plumbers, factory workers, and construction crews.
He referred to this workforce as the “essential economy,” arguing that shortages in these roles could lead to higher costs, longer wait times, and reduced economic productivity.
Farley warned that the effects could extend beyond manufacturing, potentially increasing consumer prices across multiple sectors.
