Ford Recalls More Than 565,000 Broncos Over Engine Fire Risk

Ford Motor Co. is recalling nearly all Ford Bronco SUVs sold in the United States since the launch of the current generation because of a potential engine compartment fire risk.

The recall affects 565,691 Broncos from the 2021 through 2026 model years, Zac Palmer reported for Road & Track.

For comparison, Ford has sold just under 590,000 Broncos in the United States since the current-generation model entered the market through the first half of 2026.

According to Ford, the problem involves the vehicle's engine compartment wiring harness.

"Relative movement between the engine compartment wiring harness and surrounding components and insufficient abrasion protection on the wiring harness can lead to exposure of wiring. If internal harness circuits are exposed, intermittent shorts can create arcing," the company said.

The resulting heat or electrical arcing could ignite nearby flammable materials, increasing the risk of an engine compartment fire.

Ford said drivers may receive little warning before a fire occurs, although possible indicators include smoke entering the cabin through the air vents or a warning message on the instrument cluster.

According to recall documents, any fire would likely originate on the passenger side of the engine compartment.
