Ford is recalling more than 741,000 vehicles in the United States because a transmission issue could damage the parking system and increase the risk of a crash or injury.

According to a report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall covers certain Ford F-150, Ford Explorer, Ford Expedition, Lincoln Aviator, and Lincoln Navigator models from the 2018 through 2021 model years.
The agency said affected vehicles may experience temporary engagement of the transmission parking pawl while the vehicle is moving during certain gear shifts, potentially damaging parking system components.
If damage occurs, the transmission's park function may fail to hold the vehicle when the parking brake is not applied, increasing the risk of unintended vehicle movement.
The NHTSA said Ford is aware of 24 reports of property damage and nine reported injuries, including two involving emotional distress.
Owners will receive notification letters instructing them to bring their vehicles to a Ford or Lincoln dealership, where technicians will update the Powertrain Control Module software, inspect the transmission, and replace damaged components if necessary at no cost.
