Global vehicle production at eight major Japanese automakers fell 6.4% from a year earlier to 1.98 million units in November, company data showed, Jiji Press reported.

Honda Motor Co. recorded a sharp 33.7% drop in global production due to supply shortages linked to China-affiliated semiconductor maker Nexperia. Toyota Motor Corp., Nissan Motor Co., Mazda Motor Corp., and Subaru Corp. also posted declines of more than 5%.
Honda has temporarily shut a plant in Mexico and reduced production in the United States and Canada.
It plans further cuts in Japan and China from late this month to early next month.
Subaru’s global production plunged 20.4% after partial shutdowns caused by construction work at its main plant in Ota, Gunma Prefecture, northwest of Tokyo.
In contrast, Suzuki Motor Corp. increased production by 14.1%, driven by strong demand for its new SUV model in India. Daihatsu Motor Co. and Mitsubishi Motors Corp. also reported production gains.
