Leading digital solutions platform Globe Telecom has expressed support for the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) directive mandating telecom companies to block text messages containing clickable links.

Globe was among the first to initiate this action in September 2022 when it started filtering out all person-to-person (P2P) SMS with clickable links within its network.
This measure is aimed at reducing scams and fraudulent activities. Globe was among the first to initiate this action in September 2022 when it started filtering out all person-to-person (P2P) SMS with clickable links within its network.
Anton Bonifacio, Globe's Chief Information Security Officer, praised and embraced the NTC's directive, emphasizing the significance of a safer digital landscape.
The NTC's memorandum, dated September 27, 2023, instructs telecom companies to block or deactivate text messages containing clickable domains, URLs, URL-shortening service links, Smart Links, and QR Codes.
These links are often used by unscrupulous individuals to deceive recipients into revealing personal information, downloading malware, or incurring unwanted charges.
Globe has been proactive in blocking spam and scam messages, and it has blocked billions of such messages in 2022.
The company has also invested in enhancing its spam and scam SMS detection and blocking mechanisms, and it encourages customers to report unwanted SMS through its #StopSpam portal.
This initiative aligns with Globe's commitment to collaborating with government bodies, especially the NTC, in the fight against fraud and cybercrime.
