Google Delays Release of Gemini 3.5 Pro AI Model

Alphabet Inc.'s Google has delayed the release of Gemini 3.5 Pro, its flagship artificial intelligence model, as engineers continue working to improve its capabilities—particularly in coding—according to a Bloomberg News report.

Reuters reported that Google Chief Executive Officer Sundar Pichai had previously indicated during the company's annual Google I/O conference in May that the model would be released in June.

The delay comes amid fierce competition among AI developers seeking to improve model performance, lower costs, and expand enterprise capabilities.

Bloomberg reported that some Google engineers, AI researchers, and managers have become concerned as rivals OpenAI and Anthropic continue releasing models that outperform Gemini in several benchmark areas.

According to the report, Google updated the training data used for Gemini late last month to strengthen its coding capabilities, but the results reportedly fell short of internal expectations.

Alphabet shares slipped nearly 3% following publication of the report.
