Government To Provide Extra 100 Billion Yen For Quake Relief In Central Japan

Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has announced that his government will allocate an additional approximately 100 billion yen ($665 million) for the reconstruction of the Noto Peninsula following the New Year's Day earthquake in central Japan, as reported by Mainichi Shimbun.

The emergency funding, drawn from reserve funds under the fiscal 2023 budget, will support various measures, including expanding relief payments to provide up to 6 million yen per household, covering youth and families with children, Kishida informed reporters after his second official visit to the quake-hit areas in Ishikawa Prefecture.

Additionally, the funds will be utilized to establish temporary workshops in April to aid local traditional industries, Kishida added.

This marks the third allocation of reserve funds for earthquake recovery efforts, bringing the total combined amount to over 260 billion yen. The Cabinet is expected to approve the additional allocation in the coming days.
