Kamala Harris has announced that she will not run for California governor next year.

“For now,” she said, “my leadership — and public service — will not be in elected office,” Alisha Jucevic reported for The New York Times.
Harris had been exploring a run for the state’s top office since returning home to Los Angeles in January, after losing the presidential election to Trump. But she showed little enthusiasm for the role throughout the year.
Her decision leaves open the possibility of a presidential run in 2028.
