Filmmaker Cullen Hoback claims to have spent three years trying to determine the true identity of QAnon, and his six-part HBO documentary did little to show that Ron Atkins, operator of 8chan and son of Jim Watkins, a former porno channel owner, was, indeed, QAnon.

Dan Jackson for the US entertainment outlet Thrillist said Hoback goes down the rabbit hole in pursuit of the conspiracy poster's true identity, taking little heed from the founder of 8chan - Frederick Brennan – who had previously named Ron or his father as Q. They are the only two who have verified Q's posts on cChan, Jennifer Smith reported for the UK’s DailyMail.
QAnon began as a marginalized, far-right-wing conspiracy theory that was contained in the corners of the dark web but it exploded online and now has thousands of followers due to the defeated US President Donald Trump, who feasted on pizzagate, which reduced Democrats to a bunch of pedophiles headquartered at a pizzeria in Washington, D.C., and Hillary Clinton and Huma Abedin abusing children and drinking their blood. None of these crazy claims is true, Smith said.
Yet, this QAnon thrives on shared psychosis, and the posts are pushed from servers in the Philippines, where conspiracy theories are a dime a dozen and where Ron and Jim Atkins lived in the 2000s, feeding pigs, showing off their expensive pens and watches.
“The site is hosted on servers in Manila, in the Philippines, and is safe from the censorship that Trump fans complain about on western social media. Brennan has been trying for years to get the site taken offline, claiming it is now out of control and dangerous. He previously named either Ron or Jim as Q, saying in a June 2020 interview: 'I definitely, definitely, 100 percent believe that Q either knows Jim or Ron Watkins, or was hired by Jim or Ron Watkins,'” Smith wrote.
