The deal would combine major media assets—including CNN, HBO, TNT, CBS, Paramount Pictures, MTV, and Nickelodeon—into one of the largest entertainment conglomerates in the United States.

According to reporting by Ryan Rose for AlterNet, opposition to the merger has extended beyond media analysts and antitrust experts to include industry professionals.

More than 3,000 actors, writers, directors, and musicians have signed an open letter raising concerns that consolidation at this scale could lead to tighter control over content and fewer avenues for creative expression.

At the center of the criticism is the fear of increased gatekeeping, with signatories arguing that large mergers tend to prioritize commercial considerations over editorial risk-taking.

Some also pointed to prior corporate decisions—such as settlements involving major networks—as examples of how business pressures can influence content decisions, raising broader concerns about censorship and media independence.
