House Passes Resolution to Limit Trump's Iran War Powers

The Republican-led US House of Representatives has voted 220-204 to pass a war-powers resolution directing President Donald Trump to end US military hostilities against Iran without congressional authorization.

Seven Republicans joined Democrats in supporting the resolution: Thomas Massie of Kentucky, Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania, Warren Davidson of Ohio, Tom Barrett of Michigan, Nancy Mace of South Carolina, Mariannette Miller-Meeks of Iowa and Zach Nunn of Iowa.

The resolution was introduced by Rep. Seth Moulton, a Massachusetts Democrat.

It invokes Congress's war powers and calls for the president to terminate the use of US armed forces in hostilities against Iran.

The vote marked the third time the House had passed a measure seeking to end or restrict US military involvement in the Iran conflict, according to The Associated Press (AP).

Because it is a concurrent resolution, the measure does not go to the president for signature and does not itself become law.

It would need Senate action to advance through Congress, and its legal effect differs from that of legislation signed by the president.
