The House voted 219–213 early after hours of delay to advance President Trump’s so-called “big, beautiful bill” for debate ahead of a final vote. GOP leaders overcame significant pushback to changes made by the Senate, Kaia Hubbard reported for CBS News.

The procedural vote lasted almost six hours as Republican holdouts were pressured to vote “yes.”
Debate lasted about an hour afterward, during which House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries addressed the chamber. Speaker Mike Johnson is expected to follow, ahead of the final vote.
Before the procedural vote was finalized, Johnson told reporters that Trump was “directly engaged, as he always is, and that was very important.”
A group of House Republicans who had threatened to block the bill ultimately reversed course, clearing the way for final passage.
That group included both hardliners—concerned that the package would add $3.3 trillion to the national deficit over the next decade—and moderate members worried about proposed Medicaid cuts, as reported by CNN’s Sarah Ferris, Morgan Rimmer, Annie Grayer, and Alison Main.
