China’s Huawei Technologies showcased an AI computing system that one industry expert says rivals Nvidia’s most advanced offering, as the Chinese tech giant seeks to capture market share in the country’s growing AI sector, Brenda Goh and Liam Mo reported for Reuters.

The CloudMatrix 384 system made its public debut at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC), a three-day event in Shanghai where companies unveil their latest AI innovations.
The system drew a large crowd to Huawei’s booth and has attracted global attention since its initial announcement in April. Industry analysts see it as a direct competitor to Nvidia’s GB200 NVL72, the U.S. chipmaker’s most advanced system-level product currently on the market.
Dylan Patel, founder of semiconductor research group SemiAnalysis, wrote in April that Huawei now possesses AI system capabilities that could surpass Nvidia’s.
Huawei is widely regarded as China’s most promising domestic supplier of AI-essential chips, despite facing U.S. export restrictions. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang acknowledged Huawei’s momentum in a May interview with Bloomberg, citing CloudMatrix as an example.
The system integrates 384 of Huawei’s latest 910C chips and, according to SemiAnalysis, outperforms Nvidia’s GB200 NVL72—which uses 72 B200 chips—on several metrics.
