In an opinion piece for Haaretz, Ksenia Svetlova says that Israel may fuming at Ukraine for voting at the United Nations (UN) to investigate the occupation of Arab lands in Israel but it only has itself to blame.

Tel Aviv should remember that Israel has not helped Ukraine one bit since the invasion of Ukraine unleashed by Russian President Vladimir Putin on Feb. 24, 2022 that has destroyed more $330 billion worth of state assets and private property, Svetlova argued.

“Unlike the rest of the West, Israel is standing on the sidelines – fuming, scolding and stammering – as Ukraine fights for its freedom. As the rift between Jerusalem and Kyiv grows, the damage to Israel's standing is already incalculable,” Svetlova stressed.

After his country voted to support the UN draft resolution for an international probe into Israel's occupation of Palestinian territories, the Ukrainian ambassador to Israel, Yevgen Korniychuk, was summoned to the Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem for a reprimand.

Israel was quick to emphasize that Ukraine voted in this instance alongside Iran. But Ukraine is a sovereign country, headed by President Volodymyr Zelensky, who is Jewish, and Israel has no business berating it.

Israel has stood neutral on the Russian invasion, and it cannot question why Ukraine exercised its vote for its national interest, something that Israel invokes at every turn.
