The Bank of Italy said Friday that Italy's public debt reached a record high of 2,530 billion euros in June, the Italian news agencyANSAreported late on August 15, 2020.

This figure, the bank said, was 20.5 billion euros higher than the debt level as of May 2020.
The central bank said tax revenues amounted to 26.2 billion euros in June.
It meant a drop of 19.9% (6.5 billion euros) with respect to the same month in 2019, with the coronavirus emergency seen as the principal cause after Italy sustained heavy economic losses due to the high COVID-19 death toll and the shutdowns of many economic enterprises.
