The Italian government has granted conditional approval for the sale of Italian manufacturer Iveco to India’s Tata Motors, Roman Pryhodko reported for Militarnyi.

Under the agreement, Tata Motors will acquire Iveco after the company completes a separate sale of its defense business to Italy’s state-owned defense group Leonardo SpA.
Italian authorities have imposed several conditions on the deal, particularly concerning the preservation of strategic defense assets and domestic employment, Reuters also reported.

The sale marks a significant shift for both Italian industry and the Indian auto giant: Tata Motors will strengthen its global footprint, while Italy retains control of its defense operations through Leonardo and maintains civilian truck production amid a difficult period for the company.
The government approved the sale on Oct. 31 and must now finalize the legal and operational conditions for completion.
Militarnyi previously reported that Iveco had signed a final agreement to sell its defense division — which includes the Iveco Defence Vehicles and ASTRA brands — valued at around €1.7 billion.
