DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista emphasized that the continued assistance from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) reflects the 67-year diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Japan.

During the 50th anniversary of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Philippines (JCCIPI), Secretary Bautista expressed that transportation projects, which contribute to economic growth and benefit Filipinos, are expected to persist beyond the administration of President Marcos Jr., with ongoing support from the Japanese government.

"We believe the Department of Transportation is at the forefront of sustaining the harmonious relations between our two countries, primarily through support for transformative transport infrastructure projects," stated Secretary Bautista.

He explained that given the Philippine government's budget constraints, Japan's Official Development Assistance (ODA) will continue to facilitate the implementation of these transport projects.

"We hope stakeholders like the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Philippines will recognize the endless investment possibilities in the Philippines, aimed at enhancing the country's economic growth and addressing the social needs of Filipinos," added Bautista.

He also noted that with JICA's assistance in the Philippines amounting to over P1.5 trillion, the government has been able to pursue various transport infrastructure projects, including the North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR), Metro Manila Subway, LRT Line 1 Cavite Extension, and the rehabilitation of MRT Line 3.

Additionally, members of JCCIPI may participate in the bidding for the privatization of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
