The labor union of Gunma Television (GTV) Co., the sole local TV network in east Japan's Gunma Prefecture, has filed a complaint with the prefectural labor commission, alleging that the network unlawfully interfered with the union after its president demanded a reduction in news coverage to cut costs, as reported by Ryuko Tadokoro for Mainichi Japan.

The labor union recently submitted a motion to the Gunma Prefecture Labor Relations Commission, asserting that the demands made by network president Kazuo Takei and other executives violated the Broadcasting Act, which outlines the public missions of TV networks.
The union also argued that such actions could diminish the quality of GTV's programs.
Since June, the union has engaged in collective bargaining discussions with the network on three separate occasions to negotiate improvements in working conditions, aiming to alleviate long working hours caused by cost reductions.
However, the network opted to transfer five union executives to different positions.
This included moving union chairman Masao Maeshima from the role of director at the production department to a camera operator at the tech department in September and transferring a union executive, who served as an anchor, to the sales department the following month.
