The material was created as a new Ise brand in collaboration with the office of the late designer Kansai Yamamoto. The first product, a lightweight shoulder bag called “Sacosh,” has recently been completed.

Ise washi, produced by local company Taihou Wasi Kougyou, which was founded in 1899, is designated as a traditional craft of Mie Prefecture.

The paper uses kozo paper mulberry and oriental paper bush fibers, while an extract from the roots of sunset hibiscus plants serves as a binding agent.

In addition to being used as the official paper of Ise Grand Shrine for items such as talismans and amulets, Ise washi has also gained popularity in recent years for products such as letter paper, postcards, and photo paper compatible with home printers because of its distinctive texture and durability.
