Josh Mandel, a Republican candidate in Ohio, claims the Jewish financier George Soros worked with the “deep state” on “organized operations” to propagate the COVID-19 pandemic, stir up the January 6 insurrection and promote the Black Lives Matter movement, Samuel Sokol reported for the Israeli newspaper Haaretz.

“In respect to coronavirus, January 6 and the entire BLM [Black Lives Matter], Antifa, riots and looting, I think a lot of this stuff were [sic] organized operations and a lot of it was funded by [George] Soros and moneyed liberal forces,” former Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel said in an interview with American Media Periscope.
“My guess is that the deep state was very involved with a lot of these operations as well,” he added.
Mandel, 44, was unsuccessful in a 2012 bid to unseat Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown in Ohio and is now looking to succeed two-term Republican incumbent Rob Portman, who is not standing in the 2022 midterm elections.
Mandel, a former Marine, is a staunch supporter of former President Donald Trump and, like him, is no stranger to controversy. Responding to President Joe Biden’s call last month for Americans to either get vaccinated or get weekly tests, he issued a video invoking comparisons to the Gestapo.
“I call on my fellow Americans: do not comply. Do not comply with the tyranny, and when the Gestapo show up at your front door, you know what to do,” he said.
In July 2017, he criticized the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) for its criticism of the alt-right, tweeting: “Sad to see ADL become a partisan witch hunt group targeting people for political beliefs,” adding that he stood with leading alt-right figures Mike Cernovich and Jack Posobiec.
Despite being the grandson of Holocaust survivors who entered the United States as refugees, Mandel adamantly opposed the admission of Afghans fleeing the Taliban takeover last summer. He tweeted that they would “bring child brides and Sharia Law to your neighborhood.”
He also recently called the Palestinians “a people from a fictional land who hate everything we stand for as Christians, Jews, and Americans.”
