A federal jury has found that Live Nation Entertainment, owner of Ticketmaster, operated as an illegal monopoly and overcharged customers, in a landmark ruling that could reshape the live entertainment industry.

The verdict followed a seven-week trial in New York and deliberations lasting four days, according to BBC News.

The lawsuit, brought by the US Department of Justice, alleged that Live Nation’s practices limited competition, resulting in higher ticket prices and reduced service quality.

Former Attorney General Merrick Garland had called for structural remedies, including potential divestitures or separation from Ticketmaster.

The ruling could lead to significant changes in how concerts are promoted, ticketed, and priced, though implementation may take time.
