Director of the National Economic Council Kevin Hassett surprised Fox News’ Kayleigh McEnany by threatening Democrats with “extreme measures” if the current government shutdown does not end in a matter of days, Mediaite reported.

Hassett joined McEnany on Saturday in America and at one point suggested there would be “extreme measures” potentially taken by President Donald Trump and Republicans if the government shutdown does not end by next week.
Republicans and Democrats are at a standstill on passing a continuing resolution to fund the government.
While discussing the No Kings rallies against the administration on Saturday, Hassett hit Democrats with a deadline.
“If they don’t open the government next week, I really don’t know how long it’s going to take—maybe the Republicans are going to have to take extreme measures,” he said.
“Wow. What would that look like?” McEnany asked.
Hassett explained that Trump could pick Democrats’ “favorite” programs and simply end them forever.
He said: “Well, on our side, the president has said that legally, if they shut the government down, then we don’t have the money to do stuff, so we can stop it forever. And we can stop virtually anything that we want, other than defense and so on, and national security matters. The president can pick the Democrats’ favorite things and stop them forever—legally.”
