This year's list features some of the world's most breathtaking examples of craftsmanship, creativity, and meticulous restoration, inviting travelers to experience these architectural wonders firsthand.

Among these celebrated hotels is the magnificent Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar, located in Bagac, Philippines. This historic resort offers a unique glimpse into the rich cultural and architectural heritage of the Philippines.

A standout feature of Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar is Casa Byzantina, a remarkable bahay na bato or “house of stone,” originally constructed in 1890 in Binondo, Manila, by Don Lorenzo Del Rosario.

The ceilings and domes within Casa Byzantina are adorned with intricate mosaics and replicas of masterpieces by renowned Filipino artists, including Botong Francisco’s “Pista sa Nayon,” Fernando Amorsolo’s “Mango Harvest,” Vicente Manansala’s “At the Market,” and Anita Magsaysay-Ho.

Each piece reflects the artistry and dedication that have preserved the building's historical essence while celebrating the nation's artistic legacy.

Visitors to Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar can explore not just Casa Byzantina but a collection of architectural marvels meticulously preserved and relocated to Bagac. The resort's artisan workshops are a testament to the skill and talent of Filipino craftspeople, producing everything from tiles and bricks to sculptures and furniture in-house.

This dedication to craftsmanship ensures that each detail within the resort resonates with historical and cultural significance.

Lawrence P. Horwitz, Executive Vice President of Historic Hotels of America and Historic Hotels Worldwide, emphasized the importance of these architectural wonders: “One of the best ways to distinguish a fine historic hotel from another older hotel is to look up at the ceilings. Look up and discover the tremendous detail, artistry, and craftsmanship in the historic ceilings.”

Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar, inducted into Historic Hotels Worldwide in 2017, stands as a proud representative of the Philippines on this prestigious list.

Travelers visiting the resort are encouraged to take a moment to appreciate the ornate ceilings and domes that capture the artistry of a bygone era.

Each visit is a journey through time, celebrating the creativity and dedication of the hoteliers and preservationists who have worked tirelessly to restore these historic treasures.
